Board of Directors
Mission Statement and President's Message
Staff Information
2009 Form 990

Mission of the University of Maine Alumni Association

We represent the interests of all Alumni who share the common bond of having attended the University.  We represent their thinking and their expectations to the University’s leadership, to the student community, and to the residents and elected officials of Maine.  We are the independent voice of the Alumni.

We also represent the interests of the University to all Alumni.

From our unique vantage point, we provide alumni with relevant programs, events, networking, information, and incentives to encourage them to engage in an enriching lifelong connection with the University that benefits both the University and the Alumni.

President's Message

Dear fellow Black Bears and Friends of the University of Maine:

On behalf of the staff and volunteer alumni of the University of Maine Alumni Association (UMAA), welcome to our website!

For more than 130 years the UMAA has existed to serve our ever growing alumniTodd Saucier and the University we all hold dear, the University of Maine. Just as the University itself has evolved and grown into a world-class research and teaching institution, the role and purpose of the UMAA has changed to fit the times. Today, as UMaine strengthens its commitment to undergraduate education in an era of limited resources, the role of the Alumni Association is more important than ever before.

As President of the UMAA I have made it my goal to connect all of UMaine’s 95,000 living alumni, whether it be through this website, MAINE Alumni Magazine, on-line communities, or hosting Black Bear gatherings in Bangor, Portland, Boston, and beyond. The UMAA, with its commitment to excellence and tradition of innovation, is pleased to be taking the lead in keeping Black Bears worldwide connected – strengthening the bond we all share – one alumni at a time.

Of course, like any business, the work we do takes resources and the Alumni Association secures funding from many areas, including through our Supporting Members. We value your support. If you are not currently a Supporting Member, please take a moment to visit our membership page and give a gift via our secure on-line form using a credit or debit card. It is simple and convenient.

Enjoy browsing umainealumni.org and, while here, I hope you learn a bit more about your independent Alumni Association. Together, sharing our pride and knowledge, ideas and talents, we can help build a powerful network that is both vital and relevant. I hope to hear from you soon, and be sure to drop by Buchanan Alumni House the next time you’re on campus and say hello.

Yours for the University of Maine,

Todd Saucier '93, '97G
