Hello, 1956 Black Bears — Hearty Maine Hello! We are so glad you are reading this column! Please do send us a little update on yourself! We’d love to know how you are doing, what you are up to, any updates at all! We will be sure to include your update in the next column!
We wanted to take a moment to remember your wonderful class leader, Bill Johnson, who passed away in March of this year. Bill spent decades giving back to the university, engaging with your class as class president, and being a staple in his community of Saco, ME. He will be greatly missed by so many.
The university has so many updates to share, but we wanted you to especially save the date for the annual Senior Alumni Reunion on campus October 1-3! If anyone lives in the Orono area, the Alumni Association would love to have some 1956 class members attend a reunion activity or two. You can join us for lunch, or dinner, or a guest speaker, or all of the above and more — whatever is best for you. We would love to see you! The Senior Alumni luncheon on the Friday of Reunion is always a good one to attend! Watch your mail or email for more information as October gets closer or give the Alumni Association a call.
The Class of 1956 Scholarship Fund continues to grow and help students in need. As of March, the principal balance of the fund was $207,304! As always, your scholarship gives first preference to descendants of the Class of 1956. This scholarship has been assisting 1956 class members and their families for so long and it is appreciated by all of the recipients!
Take care, everyone! Go Black Bears!
