Hello, classmates! I hope you are enjoying the lovely summer weather.
Mary O’Donnell Lord has been teaching French at the Brunswick Junior High School, the same school she attended as a youth. She began to love the French language in grade seven. Mary has become somewhat of an institution at Brunswick Junior High School, where she is loved by students and colleagues alike. She has been described by co-workers as “the heart and soul of Brunswick Junior High.”
Cathy Aikins Witherspoon, leader of both the Sunday River and Sugarloaf Snow Sports School, was recently inducted into the Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame. Cathy has been praised for her focus on bringing new families and participants into snow sports, and for helping to ensure that snow sports continue to thrive in Maine. Congratulations, Cathy!
Bruce Spang G, the former poet laureate for Portland, ME, now lives in Chandler, NC, after living in Maine for many years. He has two books coming out this year. One, a book of poems titled Twist, explores how time, as we age, becomes elastic. The poems shift from childhood to adulthood, reflecting what those different times may mean to us. The second book, a novel titled River Crossed, is a coming-of-age story set during the Watergate years.
We can also look forward to both a book of letters and a memoir from Bruce in the near future. Bruce, we look forward to reading all of these, and congratulations!
As our summer moves along, we begin to think of fall, and this may perhaps include an October trip to UMaine for Homecoming 2026! Please keep in touch!
