The UMaine Sports Hall of Fame inducted a 10-member class on October 5th. The induction ceremony added standouts from several sports including baseball, football, basketball, track and field, men’s ice hockey, and athletic training. The hall now totals 195 members.
Inductees included John Gillette ’65, three-year letterman in basketball and baseball; Ray Jacques ’85, who led the men’s ice hockey team in scoring in two seasons; Jesse Labreck ’13, one of UMaine’s most decorated track and field athletes; Ron Lanza ’66, member of Maine’s 1964 College World Series baseball team and football alum; Mark “Rookie” Letendre ’78, 18-year athletic trainer with the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees; Bill Livesey ’62, two-time first-team All-Yankee Conference outfielder; Phil McGeoghan ’08, track and field athlete who went on to spend four seasons in the NFL; Will Spencer ’61, six-time letter winner in indoor and outdoor track and three-time Yankee Conference champion in the 800-yard event from 1959-61; Amy Vachon ’00, two-time captain of the women’s basketball team; and the 1964 UMaine Baseball Team.
