Downtown Orono has a new coffee shop with assorted coffee drinks, teas, and home made goodies. Anna Berube and Li Yang opened Nest, with a motto of “Bringing peeps together,” at the corner of Main and Mill Streets, last year. Anna loves to bake and makes the cakes, muffins, pies, cookies, and other treats. Stop in—you won’t be disappointed!

Elsa Thibodeau spent last fall as an intern for U.S. Senator Susan Collins ’11 Hon. in Washington, D.C. She previously served in Collins’ Caribou and Bangor offices.

Class salutatorian Connor Smart has joined the tax practice of Baker Newman Noyes in Portland.

Still rink-side, but behind the Black Bears’ bench, Brooklyn Langlois is assistant UMaine women’s hockey coach.

In New York, Paige Melin works for Explore Buffalo. The organization offers a range of tours and programs—by foot, bus, kayak, or bike—for people of all ages to learn about the city.

Classmates and basketball teammates Liz Wood and Anna Heise have been playing basketball on the same team in Wasserburg, Germany, this year. Liz signed a one-year pro contract with the team.

Ben Hutton is playing pro hockey for the Vancouver Canucks.

Closer to home, Eliza Porter is communications director and deputy town clerk in Cumberland.

Matt Dexter learned firsthand about helping cancer patients when he lost his mother to stomach cancer in 2008. He then established the Christine B. Foundation, and has been handing out small purple gift bags with small items that provide comfort to cancer patients.

Want to be a published author? The Class of 2016 needs someone to report the class news for the magazine. It doesn’t take much time, and you only have to do it twice-a-year. If you are interested, please contact Abby Zelz at the Alumni Association: Abigail.zelz@maine.edu.
