Class of 2022 Fall Class Notes

Hello, Class of ’22! At the time of writing this UMaine Hockey has just won the Hockey East Tournament and is set to play Penn State for the opening round of the NCAA National Tournament. So, a big congratulations to the 2025 Hockey East Champions and a “Let’s Go Black Bears!”

Margaret Campbell shares that after receiving her master’s in fisheries science from Oregon State University, she was awarded a NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship and was placed at the California Coastal Commission. Margaret will work on avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating impacts to fisheries from offshore wind farms.

Margaret is not the only recent Black Bear to find herself out in Oregon. Sam Bourquin ’23 and Rachel Chozick ’21 relocated to Bend, OR, where Sam works for the US Forest Service and Rachel teaches fourth grade.

Liam O’Brien, along with Albert Putnam, placed second in the 2024 Hack-A-House: A Housing Affordability Hackathon. This competition saw about 400 participants from over 60 schools pitch new ideas for housing solutions to the housing affordability crisis.

Zavier Scott, who played football for the UMaine Black Bears, earned a spot on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad.

Alexandra “Ally” Ryan is the newest staff member at Boothbay Region High School (BRHS). Ally received her bachelor’s in biology in ’22 and in 2024 she earned a master’s in science and teaching. Ally was featured in an article in December in the Boothbay Register for her achievements in the classroom.

Jennifer Baker was named a new member of the UMaine Center on Aging. Jenn is now the associate director for administration at the Center and the assistant vice president for research, finance, and administration.

As always, please feel free to reach out to either me or the Alumni Association regarding news about yourself or other members of our class that you (or they) would like to share. Roll Bears.
