Greetings, Class of 2009! I hope the winter season is treating you kindly and that this column finds you well. Here is the latest and greatest news about your fellow classmates.
Say cheese! Seth Poplaski pulls double-duty as community engagement manager at University Credit Union while also moonlighting as a sports photographer. In the past year he’s had the opportunity to “photograph the Portland Sea Dogs, Bangor Babes, Portland Hearts of Pine, Cooper and Ace Flagg, AND my daughter’s all-star softball team who made it to states for the first time ever!”
Our own athletically gifted oh-niner, Ben Bishop, was inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame this past September. He joins such illustrious Black Bears as Cindy Blodgett ’98, Mike Bordick ’88, Jack Capuano ’89, Joanne Palombo-McCallie, Gustav Nyquist ’12, and Paul Kariya ’96. Congratulations to Ben on this well-deserved honor!
And speaking of well-deserved, abnormal psychology major Ashley Wade was sworn in as Ogunquit, Maine’s new deputy chief of police in 2025. Prior to this post, Deputy Chief Wade was a detective for the Lewiston Police Department.
Walter Polky is here to lay down the law at Lisbon High School, having been recently hired as the new head football coach for the school. Walter has held coaching posts at Husson University, Spruce Mountain, Messalonskee, and Cony. Best of luck, coach!
