Alumni Webinar Features Discussion of Race

“George Floyd, Anti-Black Racism, and #BlackLivesMatter” was the subject of a June 11 Zoom webinar featuring three UMaine alumni.  

In the aftermath of the violent death of George Floyd while in police custody, the webinar was intended to help attendees better understand and acknowledge the life experience of being Black in the U.S. Three members of the UMaine Alumni community shared their perspectives and answered questions. The participants were:

Dr. Shontay Delalue ’00, ’03G, Vice President for Institutional Equity and Inclusion, Brown University, Providence, RI

Jojo Oliphant ’00, owner of Bell the Cat Restaurant and Deli, Belfast, ME (also a member of the UMaine Alumni Association Board of Directors)

Jean Point Du Jour ’17, ’19G, real estate investor and property manager, Bangor, ME

UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy also took part in the discussion.
