Magazine Receives Prestigious Award

MAINE Alumni Magazine has won a 2021 Gold Excellence Award from District 1 of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in recognition of the magazine’s summer 2020 edition.

The honor pertains to the Alumni Association’s special expanded edition, which it produced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The magazine featured its usual content of feature stories, campus news, and class notes as well as a special 36-page section that documented the pandemic’s initial effect on students, alumni, and the university. First-person accounts from students, faculty, alumni, and university personnel described the pandemic’s impact on their lives and how members of the campus community responded.

The summer edition was underwritten by Bangor Savings Bank, whose support made it possible for the Association to expand the magazine’s page count as well as its distribution.

CASE is an international association of educational institutions that provides professional development and services relevant to alumni relations, communications, fundraising, and related services.

A panel of judges with publication expertise selected the magazine for the top award in its category after reviewing submissions from institutions in CASE District 1, to which UMaine belongs. CASE District 1 comprises all member colleges and universities in New England and eastern Canada.
