‘The Essence of Aroostook’ is the Subject of May 5th Webinar

Aroostook County, a place dear to the hearts and minds of so many Black Bears and friends, will be the subject of the Alumni Association’s May 5th noontime webinar.

“True North: Finding the Essence of Aroostook,” is based on journalist Kathryn Olmstead’s book of the same name. Published in 2020, the book features a selection of personal essays Olmstead wrote over the years as both a Bangor Daily News columnist and as a co-founder, writer, and editor of Echoes, a magazine that was published from 1988-2017 about the life and culture of Maine’s northernmost county.

The online presentation will feature observations, photography, and stories curated by Olmstead, a retired UMaine journalism professor and associate dean who in 2018 was inducted into the Maine Press Association Hall of Fame.

The webinar, which is sponsored by United Insurance, is free of charge and open to the public. It will be offered on Zoom from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. on May 5th.
