Julia Van Steenberghe ’20, Miss Maine USA, recently traveled to Memphis, TN, to compete in the Miss USA pageant. The graduate student in human development was crowned Miss Maine USA last year, but the Miss USA pageant was postponed until recently due to the coronavirus.
Van Steenberghe expressed her gratitude to the University of Maine.
“The University of Maine has provided me with academic opportunities that have helped me in many aspects of my life. Even pageantry — it’s really helped me explore passions and explore what I want to change in the world,” she says.
Van Steenberghe cheered on the cheerleading team, belonged to Team Maine, and held several jobs at Campus Recreation. She has a graduate assistantship with the Admissions office and has enjoyed substitute teaching.
