Irv Marsters ’71G, our class treasurer, reports that our class scholarship fund could use a boost in contributions. If you would like to direct your giving, you can send a check payable to the University of Maine Foundation, with a note reflecting the name of your fund or the 1963 class scholarship fund.

Linda Ellis Bennett reminded me of Mary Hoyt’s scholarship fund.

Classmates will remember Mary Hoyt. Mary was hired as a systems engineer by IBM in 1963. She was a brilliant math student. At the time of her sudden death in 1968 IBM helped establish a scholarship fund for University of Maine math students studying computer science. In 2015 the Mary L. Hoyt Mathematics Scholarship fund provided $1,592 in scholarship assistance.

Jim Goff wrote, “You will recall in last spring’s class notes in the alumni magazine, I mentioned the possibility of a 55th Reunion in 2018 and suggested folks drop me an email. While the response was somewhat limited (Thanks, Bob Sween), the article did generate some conversations among our class leadership. Because the lead-time for submitting these articles is considerable—this article being drafted in mid-July—it’s hoped that by the time you are reading it, you will have already received many more details of a fall 2018 gathering.

There have been some changes in reunion celebrations; the traditional spring gatherings are now held during the fall season. Our gathering will be held September 13-15, 2018, and details will be forthcoming. On-campus events around these fall gatherings have included presidential dinners, campus tours, and lecture series; we’re looking for an off-campus gathering one or two days in advance of those ‘usual’ events. We do hope you will be able to join us in Orono for our 55th. Keep an eye out for more details in follow-up direct mailings.
