Class of 1969 Fall Class Notes

Hello, classmates! I am writing these notes on March 29 and watching snowflakes drifting to the ground; however, you will read these notes when summer is here. Let us know what is happening. It is always good to hear from you.

Congratulations to Stephen Turner ’71G, who was inducted into the Maine Runner’s Hall of Fame on November 10, 2024. The award was given in recognition of Steve’s outstanding achievements and dedication to the sport of running.

In the 1980s, Lester Hersey G developed a 12-unit apartment complex in Mapleton through a section 515 financing program of the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development. When Lester decided to retire and sell the complex, he worked with Genesis Community Loan Fund so that Presque Isle Housing Authority could acquire the complex and ensure that it remains affordable housing.

Congratulations to our class president, Pam Beal, who was honored with the UMaine Alumni Association’s 2025 Suzanne Kay Hart ’68 Alumni Service Award. The award recognizes an alum for exemplary leadership and extensive service, in multiple ways and over a lengthy period of time, to promote the success, reputation, and value of the University of Maine Alumni Association.

Enjoy your year and keep in touch.
