Class of 1969 Winter 2024 Class Note

The crisp winter days are here. I hope everyone is well.

It’s 2024, a mere 55 years since our graduation. Once again, we remind you to send your news to us or the Alumni Association at Buchanan Alumni House, 1 Alumni Place, Orono. Your correspondence is always welcomed.

Congratulations to Michael E. Siviski, who was inducted into the 2023 class for the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. Mike coached Winslow High School’s football team to 287 wins, 11 regional championships, and seven state titles during his 35 years of coaching in Winslow. He had been a three-sport standout athlete at Winslow High before playing football at UMaine.

We extend our condolences to Pamela Smyth Baker, who informed us that Mary Barbara Perry of Fort Lee, NJ, died on August 31, 2023. Pamela and Barbara had been UMaine roommates and had maintained their friendship. They had enjoyed seeing everyone at our 50th Reunion, which they had attended together. For 30 years, Barbara had taught special needs students in Boston Public Schools.

While she was teaching in Boston, Barbara took leaves to teach for a year each in Mexico, Korea, and China. She was honored to have been elected president of The Friends of the Boston Public Library.

Congratulations to David Bronson, who wrote: “On September 22, I was honored to receive the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Association Special Achievement Award for a career in healthcare leadership including the development of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, leadership in national organizations, and mentoring a new generation of leaders. Recognition by one’s peers is the highest honor one can receive. I am truly humbled.”
