Class of 1970 Fall Class Notes

OK, Class of ’70! We need to get on the ball and send us some news! ANYTHING would be better than nothing! Like I could tell you all that I filled all my bird feeders this morning and made a batch of Snickerdoodle cookies. See what I mean?! Easy peasy and at least you know I’m alive and doing well! (big smile)

I do have something. Stephen King ’87 Hon L.H.D. made the decision back in December to close his three local Maine radio stations (the popular rock station WKIT, along with WZLO and WZON) that he’s had for more than 40 years. That’s a pretty good run! Nothing is wrong with Stephen’s health — it’s just time to let go of a few things. I loved this quote that Stephen made to the Bangor Daily News — so here it is:

“While radio across the country has been overtaken by giant corporate broadcasting groups, I’ve loved being a local, independent owner all these years. I’ve loved the people who’ve gone to these stations every day and entertained folks, kept the equipment running, and given local advertisers a way to connect with their customers.” Well — all is not lost! Two Bangor businessmen bought the popular rock station WKIT, and they plan to keep the staff, the format, and continue serving Eastern Maine! That’s a win-win!

William “Bo” Yerxa of Waldoboro, ME, was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Cobscook Institute, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. He also serves on the board of the Center for Media and Democracy.

Well, that’s it for now and don’t forget to send some news — please!
