Congratulations to Steven Merrill of Norway, who in October of 2024 was honored with a retirement plaque from Oxford County in recognition of his 30 years as a commissioner.
Last March, my sister Martha and I went to Florida to visit the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, where our father trained to be a frogman (underwater demolition) during WWII. We stayed at an old place in Vero Beach called the Driftwood (now the Historic Driftwood Resort), where our newlywed parents spent weekend get-aways when Dad had leave. All our lives we had heard stories about the Driftwood and Dad’s UDT training. It was a personally meaningful trip for my sister and me to finally visit, walk in our parents’ footsteps, and think about what their lives were like there 80 years ago.
That’s it! Short and sweet this time. Send me your news; I love hearing from you.
