Class of 1974 Fall Class Notes

Spring is in the air as I write these notes. We had some pretty cold weather this past winter, so Don and I are looking forward to summer. Our first great-grandchild was born in March, Colter Mason Grant, and we are thrilled. Life continues to treat us well and we hope the same for you.

There’s a lot of news surrounding Peter Baldacci. Peter was recently recognized by the Eastern Maine Development Corporation as the 2024 Community Partner of the Year for his decades of service and commitment to Penobscot County. For 36 years as a county commissioner, he has championed many causes and advocated for expanding community services and growth in local communities. He served District 1 that includes Bangor, Brewer, Clifton, Eddington, Holden, and Orrington. Some of his most memorable moments included the hiring of a county administrator to work with the various towns and the creation of the regional 911 dispatch center. Peter has retired but hopes that his replacement, Dan Tremble ’87, will continue to work on key projects like a new county jail. His desire is not just a new facility but a true correctional facility. Best wishes in your retirement and enjoy new adventures with your family.

Just a quick note: Dave Halligan ’79G achieved his 600th career victory in boys high school basketball in December when his Falmouth team, the Navigators, defeated Westbrook on home court. The legend continues. Congratulations!

Tom Saviello G, ’78 Ph.D. ran for Franklin County Commissioner District 1 last November and defeated his opponent by several hundred votes. District 1 includes Temple, Wilton, and part of Farmington. He hopes to ensure that the county runs effectively and efficiently and to address the needs of those less fortunate and to give them the support they need.

That’s all the news! Enjoy the coming summer days and remember to email me with your news. It’s fun to hear what you’ve been up to.
