Greetings, classmates!
By the time this column reaches you, Don and I will be settled in new digs in South Carolina. It’s bittersweet for sure. My family has owned our lake house since 1960, but we felt the best time to move back to warmer climes was while we are both in good health and to be nearer our son and his family, including our great-grandson! We will miss our piece of heaven, but plans are in the making to spend a couple of months renting on the lake in future summers.
So, what’s happening with our classmates?
All Maine Women recently celebrated its centennial celebration. Included in the events was our own Dr. Jan Coates. There was a weekend full of events and panel discussions. To be sure, there was a lot of wisdom and inspiration shared.
We were sad to hear of the unexpected passing of Joel Sankey last May. He spent 50 years as a teacher, mentor, and coach at Bucksport High School and was the winningest coach in the history of the school. In 2024, his team won the state championship. His colleague, David Gross, shared that Joel would address the team after a game with a sense of pride that wasn’t contingent on wins and losses. “It was always about growth and taking steps forward, whether that be on the field, in the classroom, in the community. And he made everything a family atmosphere.”
That’s all the news this time. As always, your classmates want to know what you are up to and how you are living your best life. You can email me your news at dondigrant@gmail.com
