Winter is upon us and we’ve just ended a very challenging year. I hope you all
are safe and well as we look forward to what should be better times.
Steven Snow writes that he retired last July from Georgia-Pacific Gypsum in
Newington, NH. He is an avid runner competing in Masters track and field. He
noted that his track club broke the national record for the 4×100 relay. He also
placed second in the long jump and fifth in the 100m dash at the USATF Masters
Anthony “Tony” DiBiase has been inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of
Fame. Tony was an All-Maine, all-tourney and All-SMAA player for the
Westbrook Blue Blazes in 1972. After graduating from UMaine he coached in
Machias, Noble, Gorham, Portland, South Portland, Gray-New Gloucester, and
Scarborough high schools and St. Joseph’s College. He coached nine Western
Maine finals and won four gold balls. He has amassed more than 500 career
Last May Steve Vanidestine ’81G, athletic administrator at Bangor High School,
was selected as Maine Athletic Administrators Association Robert Lahey Athletic
Administrator of the Year for 2020.
The Bangor Daily News reported in April that Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme
Court Leigh Ingalls Saufley was stepping down after 20 years as head of the
state’s court system to become dean of the University of Maine School of Law in
Finally, this past Patriot’s Day, April 2020 would have been my 10th consecutive
running of the Boston Marathon, but like so many events and activities it was
canceled due to the pandemic. To keep my streak going I ran 35 three-quarter-
mile loops around my neighborhood to make my 26.2 miles!
