Class of 1976 Winter 2022 Class Note

Hello, classmates! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Welcome to 2022!

Since most of us are retired now, or close to it, please take a moment and send us a short update to include in our next column about what you’ve been up to.

Nora Griffin-Shirley writes that she received the 2021 Distinguished Service Award from the Division of Visual Impairment & DeafBlindness Council of Exceptional Children. The DVIDB Distinguished Service Award recognizes exemplary leadership and commitment to the field of education and rehabilitation of students with visual impairments and deafblindness. Leigh Ingalls Saufley was inducted into the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame during a ceremony held last March during Women’s History month. Leigh is Maine’s first female chief justice and also serves as the current dean of the University of Maine School of Law .

Michael Kane wrote: “I retired this year after 45 years working for newspapers, the last 34 years at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, where I worked as a copy editor and in more recent years an an IT specialist.”

David and Diane Holloran Gilmore write that they both have retired after many years of teaching at Arkansas State University. David adds that he has embarked on a program of study at Arkansas State in music, after being in several singing groups and taking music lessons at UMaine years ago. He noted, “It will be interesting being a student again.”
