It was wonderful seeing those of you who attended our 40th Reunion in October. Whether or not you were able to make it, I hope you got a chance to see photos. Check out our Facebook group at the above address.

I was pleased to receive a New Year’s Day greeting from Mark Chase from his winter home in Florida. Mark describes himself as “basically retired” although it sounds like he keeps plenty busy between businesses in Massachusetts, summers in Maine, and lots of traveling in between. He was sorry to have missed the Reunion this time but would welcome hearing from classmates.

Phil Mateja G of Orono was inducted into the Maine Sports Legends. Phil works as an athletic trainer at Hampden Academy, where he also teaches life skills in the special education department.

Doug Hermann, president of Wyman and Simpson, of Richmond, was awarded the Major Achievement in Construction Award by the Associated General Contractors of Maine. The award recognizes leaders in the industry who have had “a significant impact on the industry, the marketplace, and Maine.”

David Chapman has received licensure as a Maine certified geologist with CES, based in Lewiston.

Kevin Bushey of Ashland, ME, announced his candidacy for the Maine House of Representatives, District 151. Kevin completed 29 years of active/reserve military service after graduation from UMaine. He is a business consultant and serves on the Ashland Area Economic Development Committee.

After a 40-year career in the water utility industry, Mark Johnson G of La Quinta, CA, retired in December 2016. He states he has become an avid hiker, and since graduating from the University of Maine, he and his wife have spent parts of their summers in Maine.

For those of you who may have known Shawn McKenna, who passed away last year, I would just like to mention here that a memorial fund has been set up at the University of Maine Foundation. It will go to a scholarship fund in his name for a deserving MBA student. The link is our.umaine.edu/mckenna.

Until next time, I hope you all have a great summer. As always, send a note along so I can let your classmates know what you are up to. We really do want to know!
