Class of 1982 Summer 2022 Class Note

Can you believe it’s been 40 years since we said farewell to our undergrad years at UMaine? The years keep slipping away—and our fellow classmates continue to distinguish themselves.

We extend our congratulations to Jeffery Mills, who was honored this year with the 2022 CASE Commonfund College and University Foundation Award. This national award recognizes Jeff’s leadership as president and CEO of the University of Maine Foundation. Since taking on that role in 2012, Jeff has led the way in driving significant growth for the Foundation, strengthening the university we all love.

“The CASE Commonfund College and University Foundation Award is considered to be a pinnacle achievement recognizing individuals in our profession who have made valuable contributions through best practices, leadership, and distinguished service. The University of Maine is very fortunate to have Jeff at the helm of their Foundation,” said the chair of the selection committee, Leonard Raley, who serves as president and CEO of the University System of Maryland Foundation.

You may remember Jeff as a leader in Student Government back in our college days. I can recall quoting him in news stories when I served as a managing editor for The Maine Campus. I believe Jeff was also a member of Alpha Tau Omega and I’m sure his ATO brothers remember him well.

This being our 40th, I’m sure many of you are wondering about Homecoming weekend, which is October 14-16. At this writing, plans are still evolving with a keen eye on the public health situation, so make sure to check the UMaine Alumni Association website (UMaineAlumni.com) for updates. It would be great to see some familiar faces again!

Wishing everyone in the Class of ’82 a happy and healthy rest of 2022. Have any news of your own or just want to share what’s new in your life? If you have anything to share, or just want to give a shout out to your classmates, please drop me a line.
