Class of 1983 Summer 2019 Class Note

Janet Robbins

It’s the middle of January as I write this class update, but I can hear the peepers peeping in my backyard (or maybe it’s just wishful thinking?).

News from our classmates: Peter Bottomley was inducted into the Maine Running Hall of Fame. Peter is founder of the New England Mile, a fundraising event for Easter Seals.

Michael Coutts ’96G will join the Black Bear Sports Network as an analyst. He is a UMaine All-American linebacker.

Tom Burrall was elected to the board of directors for Finger Lakes Health in upstate New York. Tom is president of C.S. Burrall & Son.

Janine di Giovanni was named a 2019 Guggenheim Fellow. Janine is a senior fellow at Yale University’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs and the author of eight books on war and conflict, the most recent one being The Morning They Came For Us: Dispatches from Syria (Liveright, 2016). Janine was a foreign correspondent for many years, and reported from war-torn regions including the Balkans, Africa, and the Middle East.
