Class of 1985 Winter 2024 Class Note

I hope you’re having a good winter! May 2024 be your best year yet!

Wright-Pierce has named Steve Hallowell a regional group leader for Southern New England/New York in the Wastewater Practice Group. Wright-Pierce is an employee-owned environmental engineering firm with offices throughout the northeast and Florida. Steve has been with the company for more than two decades.

Tim Thornton, a retired educator, has returned to coach the Hermon (ME) High School girls basketball team in 2023. Tim was the coach for the team for an extended time during the 1980s and 1990s, including in 1989 when the Hawks won their only state Class B championship and in 1994 when the Hawks were regional champions. Tim has coached the Brewer girls and Old Town boys basketball teams and the mens team at Bangor Community College. Good luck this season!

David Sargent is retired and lives in Portugal.

Denise O’Connell ’92G is the associate director of the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine, a program of Massachusetts General Hospital. Denise earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from UMaine. Prior to her current position, she held both leadership and clinical care roles across health care settings and is a two-time recipient of the Maine Chapter, Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care, Social Work Leader of the Year Award. Denise is also a professional musician, performing with the jazz-pop duo, Thursday Night Music. While a student at UMaine, she performed with the well-known college band Sound Trac. Denise lives in Bangor, where she donates her time to Literacy Volunteers and the PCHC Unlimited Solutions Club House. She also serves on the AgingME Council, Maine Nurse Action Coalition, and the Maine Impact Cancer Network workgroup.
