Welcome to spring, everyone.

I’m writing this article the second week of January, and there is still a lot of snow on the ground from the “Explosive Cyclogenesis” or a “weather bomb” that worked over the East Coast. I am dreaming of spring!

Before Christmas I traveled to Honolulu to visit my sister Elizabeth Nagelin Anderson ’89 and her family. It was odd seeing palm trees with Christmas lights on them. I also ran the Honolulu Marathon, which was quite the experience. The race starts in the dark at 5:00 a.m. and we had an hour-long rain shower in the middle of the race. Then I came back to Boston!

In politics, Joe Baldacci decided not to run for re-election to the Bangor City Council. Joe served on the council for 12 years, serving twice as chairman. Joe’s kids will be heading to college before long and he wants to focus more on his family and law practice.

In business, Rick Hollenbaugh joined Barnard Company’s Transmission Team as the new business development manager last September. Rick has 26 years of power and renewable energy market experience including power and renewable engineering and construction, utility operations, management consulting, contract management, project management, and business development.

In sports, John Hickson won his fourth State of Maine Golf Championship on August 9, 2017. The championship took place at the Sugarloaf Golf Club in Carrabassett Valley.

We’re a little shorter than usual on news this time around. All of your great achievements and activities don’t have to be published in a newspaper.

Have you retired or started a new business? Now that the kids are out of college are you off on a new adventure? Are your kids attending UMaine?

Send me a note and let us know about your goings on.

Enjoy the spring and summer, my friends!
