Paula Callan, principal of Messalonskee High became the first educator to win both the Maine Principal of the Year and the Maine Assistant Principal of the Year since the founding of the Maine Principals Association in 1992. In her 28 years working in school administration, Paula says she has never seen anything as challenging as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Eric. C. Brown, the former provost and vice president of academic affairs at the University of Maine Farmington, stepped down at the end of June, when his contract expired. He has held various positions at UMF, including professor, administrator, and interim president.

Lauren Boyce Gray works at AutoZone as a National Account Manager for Fleets. She is responsible for major accounts that exceed $1million per year in revenue. Recently, Lauren secured CarMax, estimated to generate over $10 million annually in revenue. Lauren’s son Kyle is a senior at UMaine, majoring in political science and is a U.S. Marine (active reserve), following in his father’s footsteps. Additionally, Kyle is working at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor as a transport.

In closing, I realize the pandemic has impacted everyone. I wanted to wish everyone well and ask that you please send me an update, whether it is a funny story, new hobby, new job, or new address. For me, Covid has helped me to prioritize what is most important, which is my family and friends. The time I have had with my children was a gift and I will cherish the memories, which included our first dog, Hogan.

Please reach out to pkoetzner@gmail.com or find me on Facebook. I would like to be able to put something together for the next issue.

Warmest,

Patty Sheridan Koetzner
