Hello, classmates!
Once again, we are low on news, so please! Send us your tidbits. Any new jobs? Promotions? Vacations? Pets? New grandkids? In our heads, we fully deny that we are old enough for grandkids, but reality tells us otherwise. So, let’s get on with it.
UMaine named two 2025 Presidential Award recipients, one of whom is classmate Brian Beal ’94 Ph.D., a professor at UMaine Machias. The Presidential Award recognizes outstanding teachers in microbiology and marine biology. Brian’s accomplishments are extensive — including his contributions to cultivating commercial shellfish and improving the economic impact of Maine’s coastal communities. His work has been previously recognized though other awards, and he was named one of Maine Magazine’s “50 Mainers: Creating a brighter future for the state” in 2019.
As this was the only news clip we had, you will now be subjected to updates about your class correspondents. Stacey has a new job fundraising for Phoenix Bikes, a non-profit in Arlington, VA, that combines youth educational programs with a full-service bike shop. Far more exciting is the news that Beth was recently elected to a national-level position in the Daughters of the American Revolution during their annual Congress in Washington, DC. She also took an incredible trip to South America in September, including the Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu and other parts of Peru.
Don’t make us talk about ourselves again, or next you’ll get an update on our cats!
