Class of 1997 Spring Class Notes

I hope this finds you well! Somehow time stands still when reminiscing about UMaine days and flies for milestone birthdays and life events. News to share? Send it to me at yolandasly@gmail.com or Facebook at Yolanda Sly Kozuha.

Thanks to your generous contributions to the UMaine Foundation, this year’s recipient for the Class of 1997 Scholarship of $199 for the 2025-2026 academic year is Brady Reynolds. Brady is a junior majoring in kinesiology and physical education and lives in Dexter, ME. Brady plans to pursue teaching in Maine. “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you for believing in my potential and providing me with this incredible opportunity to further my education. Thank you very much for this amazing gift, it really helps with my commuting expenses and will help me as I travel this year.”

Congratulations to Global Secure Shipping, led by CEO Robert F. Lindyberg G, ’00 Ph.D. for being awarded the Innovator of the Year award by the Maine International Trade Center. The award is presented to a company or organization that has accessed international markets through new and innovative processes or products. The Old Town-based company manufactures secure cargo containers using patented technology first developed at UMaine that is a hybrid composite material embedded with sensors that detect intrusion. The company operates out of a 32,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility and is the only company in the world making this type of container. It has a grant from the Department of Homeland Security to test containers at various ports around the world.
