Class of 2001 Summer 2022 Class Note

Hi, 2001 alums! By now you’re enjoying those summer plans you made when it was MUCH colder outside — whatever you’re doing, let us know!

Diane Dunn was the first female general officer of the Maine Army National Guard. Both her daughter and her son are UMaine family as well. She’s now on campus all the time, serving as the new senior advisor for special initiatives in the president’s office.

Wabanaki Public Health is benefitting from the experience of Lisa Sockabasin. Lisa is a member of the Passamaquoddy tribe and in the past three and a half years she’s grown the organization from seven employees to over 100. They address housing issues, addiction, violence prevention, food insecurity, and other tribal issues.

Betsy Hatch Libby was named the president of Central Maine Community College. She’s been there since 2006 and served as the interim president after Scott Knapp retired in 2020. Betsy has served as vice president, dean of academic affairs, dean of student services, director of admissions, and an adjunct faculty member during her years at the Auburn college.
