REUNION at Homecoming October 26-28, 2018

Hello, Class of 2003! Since I last wrote, Chris and I — and big sister Julia — welcomed Zoe Elizabeth to the family. We are a busy family of four, so this is going to be my last class column. Looking forward to reading the updates in the future, so keep sending them in!

Here’s the latest news from our classmates:

Jen Puilla Castonguay was recently inducted into the Brewer High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She won seven individual state championships as a track and field athlete in high school. She also competed for the Black Bears! Congrats to Jen on this recognition.

Former Black Bear basketball player Tracy Guerrette continues to dominate the Maine running scene. She won this year’s Labor Day 5-Miler in Bangor, finished third among Maine women in the Beach to Beacon in Cape Elizabeth, and won the Potato Blossom 5-Miler in Fort Fairfield. Tracy has also run 14 marathons.

Shamarukh Mohiuddin is the director of the Economic Empowerment Program at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in Washington, D.C. Her work is focused on helping global businesses design programs to support women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion. At UMaine, Shamarukh received the Outstanding Student Leader Award in 2003. She was also vice president of the International Student Association and co-president of the Economics Student Association. She earned her master’s degree in international economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Editor’s note: Thank you to Jennifer Gundersen Harris for her years of good reporting. The Class of 2003 needs someone to write this column for future magazines. If you are interested in being the 2003 class correspondent, please contact Abby Zelz at Abigail.Zelz@maine.edu.
