Class of 2010 Spring Class News

Hello, 2010’ers! Hope everyone is well! Our 15th Reunion was a success at Homecoming in October! We toured campus, gathered at tailgating, attended the football game, the hockey games, and had an informal reunion gathering at the new Wells Central Pub on campus! If you missed it, maybe a few of us can get together at a future Homecoming before 2030 at our 20th!

If you didn’t see the email regarding the anonymous classmate who offered us a match to increase our Class of 2010 Scholarship Fund, here’s the deal: If 30 classmates each give $15 to the Class of 2010 Scholarship Fund within the next year, an anonymous donor will contribute an additional $4,000 to the fund to help support future Black Bears. Our scholarship fund will assist descendants of our class first, so let’s work to increase the amount! Visit umaine.edu/give and type in Class of 2010 Scholarship Fund to make your gift. Thank you in advance!

On to class member news! Fifteen years after founding Flowfold, Devin McNeill and Charley Friedman have sold their Gorham-based company, maker of high-performance wallets, bags, and backpacks, to Tempshield LLC, a Trenton-based manufacturer. Devin and Charley are childhood friends and founded Flowfold in 2010 to make wallets out of recycled sailcloth. Congratulations to you both on your success!

Owen McCarthy and Brian Harris ’11 continue their success with their company, MedRhythms. They recently received approval from the FDA for a device to help Parkinson’s disease patients improve their walking, mobility, and motor function. They plan to introduce a prescription-only device in select U.S. markets. Good luck, guys! Owen also continues his bid to become Maine’s next governor in the 2026 election.

Sarah Hinman Newcomb ’12G let me know that she’s currently living in Westbrook, ME, and working as the head athletics fundraiser for the University of New England. She and her husband planned a trip to France for Thanksgiving 2025! They are doing as much traveling, skiing, and adventuring as they possibly can! She said despite living in Southern Maine, they always make it a point to get up to Orono for at least one football game. That all sounds wonderful, Sarah! Thank you for the update!

Chiara Amendola and husband, James Spilsbury, live in Rhode Island with their two children. Chiara runs her own small business as a board-certified behavior analyst. A few years ago, she achieved her goal of visiting 30 countries by the age of 30 and now she’s working toward 40 countries by the age of 40! How amazing!

Shoot me an email with an update on what you’re up to! I’d love to include you in a future column! Take care, everyone!
