Hello, Class of 2015! I hope you’ve had fabulous summers, wherever you’ve been – and hopefully you’ve been here in Maine at least for a little while! If not, try to come back for the foliage, or Homecoming, or the holidays.

Christopher Phinney has been selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service to be the district conservationist for Hancock County. He’s been with the NRCS since graduating in 2015. Prior to UMaine, he served in the Marine Corps for five years and is a veteran of the Iraq war.

Jacob Powers joined the Rockport Police Department as a patrol officer last winter. He previously worked with the Maine State Police and the Waldo County Sherriff’s Office, but was excited to transition to a smaller local department where he could work more closely with the community.

The MEMIC Group promoted Ian Torrey to production underwriter. He was previously promoted to associate underwriter in 2016, after joining the worker’s compensation insurance firm as an account analyst in 2015.

Trevor Bates has left the New England Patriots to sign as a linebacker with the Detroit Lions, where he’s playing for former Pats defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, now the head coach of the Lions.

Congratulations to Katelynn Ronan for earning her MBA at the Maine Business School. She’s also graduated from the Northeastern University School of Law and has recently joined Rudman Winchell in Bangor. Fun fact: only eight short years ago Kate and I were assembling tree identification portfolios in Mr. Koch’s honors biology class at Bangor High School. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Finally, big congratulations to Scott Whitney and Kristen Ellis, who announced their engagement back in February (and may even be married by the time this column is printed!) Whatever the legal status, we all wish them the best on their future together.

That’s a wrap for now, Class of 2015. As always, please get in touch with your updates — new jobs, promotions, awards, engagements, weddings, births, etc. Happy fall!
