Here’s How UMaine is Responding to COVID-19

This creative diagram is circulating widely on social media. It offers Black Bears and friends a well-intentioned “how-to” for washing hands thoroughly and long enough to reduce the possibility of contracting COVID-19, a newly identified type of coronavirus.

COVID-19 has had a greatly disruptive impact on campus life in Orono and throughout the U.S. Most notably, UMaine has canceled in-person classes for the remainder of the semester. Instead, classes will be conducted online. Most student housing on campus will be closed by March 23. No decision has yet been made about whether the 2020 Commencement exercises scheduled for Saturday, May 9th, will take place as planned.

Although Buchanan Alumni House remains open, the UMaine Alumni Association staff will be working remotely for the time being as a precaution for staff, visitors, and volunteers. We’ve made arrangements to be fully functional, including making and receiving calls and emails through our normal office contact information.
