The University of Maine, in collaboration with the University of Southern Maine and three Maine schools, will create and launch a research satellite within the next three years.

UMaine graduate students will work with USM undergraduates to design, develop, and test the first Maine-built satellite, as part of NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative. The satellite, which is about the size of a loaf of bread, is one of 18 research satellites which will collect research data. When it is launched, students from Falmouth High School, Fryeburg Academy, and Saco Middle School, will be able to access the satellite’s data.
