Climate Change Institute Earns 3 World Records for Everest Expedition

Six members of UMaine’s Climate Change Institute helped set three Guinness World Records during the 2019 National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition. The three records were for:

  • The highest altitude ice core sample taken;
  • Highest altitude microplastic found on land; and
  • Highest altitude weather station on land.

UMaine Climate Change Institute Director Paul Mayewski was the expedition’s scientific and expedition lead. A previously recorded Zoom webinar about the expedition is available here.
