Students Adapt to Changes Amid COVID Safety Precautions

Students at the University of Maine are having a different kind of college experience, which has presented a range of challenges. With athletic events canceled, many of the students’ courses online, no socializing in dorms, and other changes due to COVID-19 restrictions, students haven’t been able to interact or get to know each other in the usual way.

Many classes are much different from pre-pandemic days, as is evident in Professor Richard Powell’s socially distanced class offered in a large lecture hall (above). Students alternate attending classes in person on certain days and participating virtually on other days. As a result, some students are choosing to live at home rather than on campus.
