UMaine Student Wins Free Tuition for 2020-2021

Kelsi Day ’22 (left) is the 2020 winner of the UMaine Alumni Association’s annual tuition raffle. On May 6 UMaine Alumni Association President and CEO John Diamond ’77, ’89G drew the winning ticket, which was purchased by Kelsi’s mother , Melissa Drisko Day (right). The winning ticket covers the cost of 30 credit hours of in-state tuition, a dollar value of $8,790. Kelsi will enter her junior year in the fall.

Shortly after Melissa Drisko Day was notified of her luck, she FaceTimed Kelsi and asked her to watch a video that she wanted to share. Unbeknownst to Kelsi, it was the video of the moment her name was announced as the raffle winner.

“I screamed,” Kelsi reflected, “I never thought in a million years I would ever get a chance to win such a large amount of money towards my tuition. This money means so much to not only me, but my hard working parents who are paying for all three of their children to attend college right now.”

This year’s tuition raffle was sponsored by University Credit Union. The drawing of the winning ticket can be viewed here.
