2025 Maine Day of Service Recap

In 1935, Maine Day began as a campus cleanup, later evolving into a celebration; in fall of 2024, it transitioned to Spirit Week, a full week of beautification, service, and school spirit events. April 30, 2025 was reserved for Maine Day of Service this year, and it did not disappoint. From beautification projects to a meal pack out packing over 50,000 meals for those in need, students were engaged and ready to work.

As they do every year, All Maine Women, Senior Skulls, Sophomore Eagles, and Sophomore Owls came to Buchanan Alumni House to help us beautify for summer! See photos below!

In our April Edition of Bear Tracks we encouraged fellow alumni to send us their personal service projects.

Paul Durocher ’82 wrote, “For the last three years, I’ve been a volunteer with Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation.  I guide and teach participants who have a range of disabilities how to ski. My specialty is working with blind/visually impaired skiers. It’s been an amazing and rewarding experience.  This is a picture of me at the top of the Locke Mountain lift at Sunday River with a visually impaired skier this year.” Thank you for your volunteer work and for sharing, Paul!

Jim Brown ’73 let us know that he has been “volunteering in St. Johnsbury, VT, since 2013, when I joined the Planning Commission for the town.” He also became a volunteer on the St. Johnsbury Beautification Commission in 2015. He says, “We work on gardens in parks, gardens along the roads, planting flowers downtown, and helping other volunteers to make St. J. a better and more welcoming place to live and work. Also, as a part of the Riverfront Improvement Committee, I and others have spent time considering possible ways and means to improve and utilize our river frontage in the town.” Jim included photos of he and his son Jacob planting a Japanese tree form lilac on a downtown street. Thank you for all of your amazing service work, Jim!
