Bill Leitch

Champion of UMaine Award Recipient

Bill Leitch received the Champion of UMaine Award for his work on behalf of the university. Bill, whose late wife was Betsy Pullen Leitch ’55, has worked with and consistently advocated for UMaine’s Honors College. The couple created and funded an annual Honors trip to Washington, D.C., where students would meet with Senators, congressional staffers, and tour the Library of Congress and museums.

With a goal of expanding student horizons and enriching the undergraduate experience, he has continued this support, even after his wife’s passing. Although not a UMaine alumnus, his support has enabled students to travel to academic conferences, study abroad, and have numerous high impact educational experiences that have transformed their lives.

When the pandemic restricted travel programs, he allowed funds to be redirected to activities around campus that built community through shared outdoor experiences as well piloted new Research Learning Experiences.
